Participate in Actapio's Open Source Project Three Companies Cooperated in Realizing Integrated Control of the Cloud Infrastructure

ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoshi Kikuchi) and ITOCHU Techno-Solutions America, Inc. (head office: California, USA; President & CEO: Tadaaki Otsuka) participated in developing Gimbal, open source, cloud native load balancing platform with Actapio, Inc. (former name: YJ America, Inc.; hereinafter “Actapio”), the US subsidiary of Yahoo Japan Corporation (hereinafter “Yahoo! JAPAN”). Gimbal is open source software jointly developed by Actapio and Heptio, Inc., which develops services and products around Kubernetes.

Gimbal is a cloud native load balancing platform that manage application traffic into hybrid cloud environments consisting of multiple Kubernetes clusters and OpenStack.

Since 2015, Yahoo! JAPAN has sought to improve infrastructure operational efficiency at a data center in Washington, USA, managed by Actapio. In addition, Yahoo! JAPAN has also conducted initiatives for cloud infrastructure technologies by introducing Kubernetes as well as the existing OpenStack to improve productivity of application development and to optimize system performance.

ITOCHU Techno-Solutions and ITOCHU Techno-Solutions America have joined since the initial phase of the Gimbal project and worked on the scoping, design and development of Gimbal jointly with Actapio and Heptio, and will work together to provide total solutions, including software support.

Actapio and Heptio will deliver a joint presentation on Gimbal at the container infrastructure track at OpenStack Summit, which will be held in Vancouver starting from May 21.
